The aim of this course is to broaden students' knowledge of global health issues and research in an international context. In addition, the aim of the course is to prepare students for the creation of a master's thesis by strengthening students' knowledge, skills and competencies to work mainly with quantitative research data and, to a lesser extent, with research data. qualitative.

At the end of the course, the student should have knowledge of:

  • Global health issues, especially global markets and how different modes of production affect public health, migration, digital health, violence against women, climate issues, and the health of the Arctic.
  • Global data on health and survival with a focus on the challenges of conducting prospective and retrospective studies
  • Linguistic, social and cultural determinants of health and how they affect health and how migration is a determinant of health.
  • Guidelines for the creation of a scientific article consistent with a scientific journal

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Use the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework to describe global health issues.
  • Use global health knowledge in daily clinical practice and research.
  • Perform basic data management and statistical analysis with the right tools.
  • Adequate data storage using appropriate tools.

Learning objectives - competencies

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Please rate how health problems in Denmark differ from health problems worldwide.
  • Manage successfully alone or in collaboration with other research data.
  • Independently or in collaboration with others, choose relevant methods and tools for data analysis and management.
  • Plan the thesis and structure it as a scientific article.

Form of teaching and feedback.

The classes are organized to support the SDU basic principles for active learning and activation classes and their implementation through the ZDRAVLJE in the form of FAIR principles.

The following teaching and work methods can be used in classes: Lectures, group work and oral presentations.

In case at least one student does not speak Danish, the course will be conducted in English.

The following forms of feedback may appear in the course: teacher feedback and peer feedback.

Course activities are primarily focused on achieving learning objectives and preparing students for the type of exam. The curriculum presents specific methods of teaching and working, as well as feedback on your learning.

80% attendance and active participation.

Active participation includes:

  • Oral presentation of the planned stay abroad and Final Master's Project on the last day of the course
  • Peer feedback on oral presentations
  • Evidence. The exam may consist of answers to tests, active participation in discussions, group presentations, or brief written reflections on selected topics from the class. The type of exam will be announced in relation to the subject before the start of the module.
