iRobot Roomba Combo j7+

The iRobot Roomba Combo J7+ is a great robot for your home. It has a great design, great performance, and the iRobot app interface is so simple and easy to use with a wide range of features that this two-in-one is extremely easy to recommend.

Premium and smart design

  • one button control
  • Gunmetal/black finish
  • Krug

The design of the iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ is directly based on the iRobot Roomba j7+, but of course it makes some adjustments to take the cleaning function into account.

However, like the j7+, it has a round shape with a metallic finish on top and generally offers a premium look that will fit into most interiors. The metallic finish is for decorative purposes only, it cannot be lifted to reveal the litter tray.the iRobot s9+it does, while the rest of the Roomba Combo j7+ is protected by a black plastic bumper. This bumper absorbs scratches and stains. Don't be alarmed if this happens.

Like the Roomba j7+, the Roomba Combo j7+ has sensors on both sides, with the camera and sensor technology built into the front edge, rather than on top like previous models in the company's portfolio.

On the back of the robot, or on the front when connected, there is a button to remove the bucket and the water tank. There is a rubber tab that is clearly marked to show where you fill the tank, so it's nice and easy.

At the top of the iRobot Combo j7+ you will find a button that allows you to start and stop the device. However, the easiest way to control it is through the iRobot app, which we'll talk about a bit later.

The biggest difference from the standard Roomba j7+ can also be seen at the top, as this is where the cleaning element is located. The fabric only appears when necessary and blends seamlessly with the design. Small hand hinges on each side allow it to be lowered when needed and retracted when you've finished or stained the carpet. It's a brilliant design, and while we love the Roomba j7+ and Braava M6 mops and their ability to work together, having just one is key, especially when space is limited.

At the bottom of the j7+ combo you'll find an identical design to the j7+, including two green main brushes that you can remove with the push of a button if something gets stuck or you need to style your long hair. There's also a corner brush for those hard-to-reach places and corners, charging ports and a hole for automatic dirt removal, and a few extra sensors to keep the j7+ combo moving without too many collisions.

The j7+ combo auto disposable cartridge is identical to the j7+ once it was presentredesigned compared to the i7+And as for the cube, it looks great. It is not tall and narrow, but short and wide, so it fits, for example, under a bench. It also has a ribbed texture and a leather tongue that reveals the sand lining, which you'll need to replace from time to time, although we haven't (and it's been four months), so it collects a lot of dust and grime.

Featured properties

  • Automatic dirt removal
  • PrecisionVision Object Recognition Navigation
  • Schedule, Clean Zones, Keep Zones Away, Do Not Disturb Mode
  • Compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Like many iRobot vacuums, the Combo j7+ is packed with features. There's automatic dirt removal, which we mentioned briefly, which means the Combo j7+ will automatically return to its base and empty its bin when it's full, then return to where it left off to finish the job. A job worth doing is worth doing well, as the saying goes.

iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ review: Get your cleaner's attention (14)

There's also PrecisionVision navigation, a feature introduced in the j7+. This means that the Combo j7+ will detect an object, be it a sock, wire or dog toy, and not only avoid it, but also take a photo that you can view in the iRobot app.

Using the app, you can decide if the displayed object is a temporary or permanent obstacle and if you want to add an exclusion zone. This is a great feature because you don't necessarily need to have a tidy house for the Combo j7+ to do its job, something that was a must for robot vacuums when they first came out. The Combo j7+ also detects pet poop, and while we've luckily not had to test it with a cat and dog yet, that's an encouraging feature.

On the other hand, there's Imprint Smart Mapping in the iRobot app, which is probably one of our favorite iRobot features. Just like the j7+, you can send your Combo j7+ to multiple mapping sessions and it will create a map of your home. You can name the rooms appropriately and add clean zones for particularly messy areas like the dining room and no-go zones for pet-feeding areas, for example.

As you'd expect, there's a built-in scheduling feature that lets you schedule a specific job for a specific time or day of the week, while also being pretty linear when it comes to selection. When setting up a job, you can choose which rooms you want to clean, whether you want to vacuum and mop at the same time, just vacuum or just mop, as well as how many cleaning passes you want the Combo j7+ to do and how much water you want the mop to use.

It is then possible to set the job as a favourite, which will then appear as a quick access tile in the iRobot app. This makes it very easy to get started if you haven't set a schedule beforehand.

Combo j7+ is compatible withAmazon AlexaIgoogle assistantAlso, once set up, you can ask one of these assistants to initiate the order instead of pulling out your phone and opening the app. The only time this doesn't work is if you have Do Not Disturb turned on, the automation stops and you can no longer hear the robot sounds.

Other features include Clift Detect, which prevents the j7+ combo from falling down stairs, while Dirt Detect ensures it targets particularly dirty spots. The retractable mop also recognizes carpets and retracts to the top of the unit before touching carpets or rugs, so you don't end up with wet socks.

Easy to use

  • simple interface
  • iRobot app

iRobot products are extremely easy to use and that's one of the reasons we love them as much as we do. The iRobot app is excellent - not only does it look good, but the interface is nice and easy to navigate. Being able to divide your house into rooms and place partitions where you want provides a lot of flexibility that is sometimes very useful when cleaning your home. It's also great that you no longer have to add separate laser devices for limited areas.

iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ review: Get your cleaner's attention (18)

If you want to start a new job, this will be clearly stated in the top right corner of the app, along with the options we mentioned to give you a very specific cleaning schedule. The Favorites option is also great because it gives you the ability to get started right away with just one tap.

In the iRobot app, you'll also find features like Pet Lock, which prevents your cat from climbing on the Combo j7+ and starting a cleaning cycle, or kids playing with the button, both of which have happened in our homes. Also, you have several settings that you can adjust, as well as a cleaning history.

Good performance

  • Excellent object recognition
  • Good suction and cleaning function.
  • It adapts well to different types of soil.

The iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ offers fantastic overall performance, both in terms of vacuuming and mopping. Even better, since you're doing both at the same time, it doesn't take much longer to do both than with a regular vacuum.

A three-stage cleaning system with ten times the suction power of the company's Roomba 600 series is incorporated, which is clearly visible during use. The edge cleaning brush works well for covering edges and corners of the room, while the dual rubber multi-surface brushes work well on different types of floors.

iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ review: Get your cleaner's attention (19)

We mostly recognized and avoided objects, although we did set up a no-go zone around the bar stools in the kitchen. They have a domed and reflective base, which confused the j7+ combination and got stuck, but that was the only time.

However, we also found that while the j7+ combo would eventually return to its base, it sometimes took the j7+ combo a few tries to transition between our living room and the kitchen, where the base is located. The kitchen is about 1.5 inches taller than the living room and has a sloped edge, and while the Comboj7+ got it right, it often took a few tries.

In fact, we've seen him try for about 10 minutes, and if he doesn't succeed, he usually goes back to the dining room, sucks on some more, and then tries again. This happens about 50 percent of the time, but in the end it always works. If you don't get it the first time, try again, right Roomba?

iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ review: Get your cleaner's attention (20)

The Roomba Combo j7+ provides good suction that is more than strong and perfect for everyday cleaning. It doesn't necessarily replace a corded vacuum and the power it offers, but it still does a great job of keeping things clean all week long. We have a dog and a cat and we have to vacuum every day otherwise the hair buildup on the carpets is disgusting. The j7+ combo is perfect for that.

As for the transition element, we were impressed with how well the Combo j7+ handled it. No fish, so if you've broken something sticky on the floor, for example, it can be difficult to remove and won't stop you from using a mop again, but like the suction element, the Combo j7+ is ideal for all days. cleaning.

Please note that the container is not large. So, depending on the size of your house, you may need to refill the tank to get the job done, which does affect comfort a bit. This means it doesn't have to be cleaned yet, so it's a compromise.

iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ review: Get your cleaner's attention (21)

Our biggest criticism of the j7+ combo is that it's not particularly quiet when vacuuming. In fact, it's quite loud, just like the j7+. So if you plan to fly her at home, be prepared not to lift your feet and have a cup of tea in peace.

We would also appreciate the option to empty the trash later after the Combo j7+ has done its job. Perhaps a setting that allows you to empty the tank before starting a new job instead of when the job is complete. Emptying the bin is very loud for about 30 seconds, so it shouldn't happen too late at night when the kids are sleeping, for example. Otherwise, we have nothing to complain about.

The iRobot Roomba Combo j7+ is a great robot for your home. It has a great design, great performance, and the iRobot app interface is so simple and easy to use with a wide range of features that this two-in-one is extremely easy to recommend.

It's not the cheapest device, nor is it the quietest, and we'd really like to be able to choose when to empty the tank, as well as a slightly larger water tank. But overall, the j7+ combo does a great job of handling the two daily tasks we dread the most, and we highly recommend it.
