1. What are Phenergan tablets and what are they used for

Phenergan tablets contain a drug called promethazine hydrochloride.

It belongs to a group of medicines called phenothiazines. It blocks a natural substance (histamine) that your body produces during an allergic reaction. It also works directly on the brain to make you feel more relaxed.

What are Phenergan pills for?

Phenergan Tablets is used to treat the following conditions:

  • For short-term use: to treat adults with sleep disorders (insomnia)
  • To treat allergic conditions such as hay fever or skin rashes (such as hives or hives)
  • To treat or prevent nausea or vomiting, such as B. Motion sickness
  • For short-term use: as a sedative for children over 5 years old

2. What You Need to Know Before Taking Phenergan Pills

Do not take this medicine if:

  • The person taking the drug is under 5 years old.
  • are allergic (hypersensitive) to promethazine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of phenergan (listed in Section 6 below). Signs of an allergic reaction include: rash, problems with swallowing or breathing, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue.
  • You are taking a medication for depression called a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Also, do not take Phenergan pills if you have stopped taking any of these MAOI drugs within the last 14 days. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist (see section “Using other medicines” below).
  • The person is unconscious (comatose) or has severe dizziness, lightheadedness, or headache

Do not take this medicine if you are in any of the above conditions. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fenergan tablets.

Warnings and Cautions

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking your medication if

  • you have shortness of breath, wheezing, tightness in the chest (asthma) or an infection in the lungs (bronchitis)
  • you have epilepsy
  • You have a serious heart condition.
  • If you have a personal or family history of heart disease.
  • if you have an irregular heartbeat
  • you have liver or kidney problems.
  • You have an upset stomach or difficulty urinating
  • you have hearing problems
  • you have increased pressure in the eye (narrow-angle glaucoma)
  • They had something called Reye's syndrome or possible Reye's syndrome; Signs include nausea and confusion after a viral illness

If you are not sure if any of the above applies to you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Fenergan tablets.

Taking Phenergan Tablets with Other Medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines you can buy without a prescription, including herbal medicines. This is because Phenergan tablets can affect the way some medicines work. Also, some medications can affect how Phenergan pills work.

Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if you are taking or have taken in the last 2 weeks:

  • Some medications for depression called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any of the following medicines:

  • Anticholinergics: This includes some medications used for irritable bowel syndrome, asthma, or a weak bladder. These can increase your risk of dizziness, dry mouth and blurred vision.
  • Medications for depression (such as amitriptyline)
  • Medicines to help you sleep or feel more relaxed (such as diazepam or zolpidem)
  • Medicines such as aspirin (for arthritis and joint pain). Phenergan pills can hide the side effects of these drugs
  • Medicines used to treat abnormal heart rhythms (antiarrhythmics such as quinidine and amiodarone)
  • Antidepressants (such as amitriptyline and citalopram)
  • Antipsychotics (such as haloperidol and quetiapine)
  • Antibiotics (such as erythromycin and levofloxacin)

Taking Phenergan tablets with food and drink

Do not drink alcohol while taking Phenergan pills. This is because it can affect the way the medicine works.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, might become pregnant, or think you might be pregnant. Phenergan tablets should not be taken 2 weeks before giving birth.

You should not take Fenergan tablets if you are breast-feeding. Because small amounts can pass into breast milk. It can harm your baby.

If you are breast-feeding or planning to breast-feed, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

3. How to take Phenergan pills?

The amount you need to take depends on why you are taking the Phenergan pills. The information below will help you decide how much to bring.

taking this medicine

  • Administer the medication orally
  • Do not take for more than 7 days. If your symptoms get worse or do not improve after 7 days, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you feel that the effect of your medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose yourself, but consult your doctor.

The recommended dose is:

For allergies (such as hay fever, skin rashes and hives)

Children aged 2 to 5 years:

  • Phenergan Elixir should be used in this age group

Children aged 5 to 10 years:

  • A single tablet (25 mg) given at night
  • DO NOT give more than 25 mg per day

Children over 10 years old and adults (including the elderly):

  • Start with one tablet (25 mg) taken in the evening
  • This can be increased to a maximum of one tablet (25mg) twice a day if needed.

To treat and prevent nausea or vomiting (eg, motion sickness)

Children aged 2 to 5 years:

  • Phenergan Elixir should be used in this age group

Children aged 5 to 10 years:

  • Phenergan Elixir or Phenergan 10 mg tablets should be given to this age group

Children over 10 years old and adults (including the elderly):

  • Take a single tablet (25 mg) the night before you travel
  • This can be repeated after 6-8 hours if necessary.

As a short-term pediatric sedative and for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults

Children aged 2 to 5 years:

  • Phenergan Elixir should be used in this age group

Children aged 5 to 10 years:

  • A single tablet (25 mg) given at night

Children over 10 years old and adults (including the elderly):

  • One or two tablets (25mg-50mg) taken at night

Use this medication only as recommended. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Phenergan pills can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight while taking this medication.

If you take more Phenergan tablets than you should

If you or your child takes more Fenergan tablets than you should, tell a doctor or go to a hospital emergency room right away. Take the medicine pack with you. This way the doctor knows what you or your child has taken.

The following effects may occur:

In children:Excitement, unsteady or staggering movements, uncontrolled twisting movements, especially of the hands or feet, hallucinations, seizures, loss of consciousness, irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath.

For adults:Drowsiness or drowsiness, seizures, loss of consciousness, irregular heartbeat and difficulty breathing.

If you forget to take Fenergan tablets

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

  • If you are taking Phenergan tablets for an allergic condition, take the medication as soon as you remember and continue as before.
  • If you are taking Fenergan tablets for sedation or trouble sleeping, skip this dose and take your next dose in the evening as usual.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Trial

Taking Phenergan pills can affect the results of certain tests. These include some pregnancy tests and skin tests. Phenergan tablets should not be taken at least 3 days before starting a skin test.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Fenergan tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking Phenergan tablets and see a doctor or hospital immediately if you notice any of the following side effects:

  • An allergic reaction. Signs may include: rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of the lips, face, throat or tongue.
  • liver problems that can cause yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
  • muscle stiffness or tremors
  • Inability to control some muscles in the head or face
  • You notice unusual tongue movements, facial muscle spasms, eye rolling, and tremors.
  • Very fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Arrhythmia
  • Fatigue that lasts a long time. This could be due to a blood problem called anemia.
  • Hyperactive behavior in children.

Tell your doctor IMMEDIATELY if you experience any of the following:

  • you have a very fast, irregular or pounding heartbeat (palpitations)

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects gets serious or lasts longer than a few days. Also let them know if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet.

  • Dry mouth, blurred vision, or inability to urinate (pee)
  • Drowsiness or drowsiness, tiredness, disorientation, nightmares, headache, restlessness
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia), indigestion
  • dizziness, vertigo, fainting (hypotension)
  • Confusion, especially in the elderly.
  • More sensitive to the sun than usual. In this case, stay away from direct sunlight and do not use sunlamps.
  • Uncomfortable feeling or overwhelming urge to move your legs (also called restless legs syndrome)

5. How should I store Phenergan pills?

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Do not take Phenergan tablets after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after "EXP". The expiration date refers to the last day of that month.
  • Store below 30°C
  • keep on original package for light protection

Do not throw medicines down the drain or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures contribute to the protection of the environment.

6. Package Contents and Other Information

Composition of Phenergan pills.

  • Each tablet contains 25 mg of the active substance promethazine hydrochloride.
  • The other ingredients are lactose, maize starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, opaspray (contains titanium dioxide E171, hypromellose E464 and indigo blue carmine aluminum E132) and hypromellose.

One light blue film-coated tablet with “PN 25” engraved on one side. The tablets are available in blister packs of 56 units.
